The City of Cape Town team comprising administrative staff, prosecutors, and traffic officers, assisted 8 543 members of the public as they came to make representations on their outstanding traffic fines, most of which were reduced because of affordability factors presented to the prosecutors at the roadshow. The majority of the motorists who were assisted needed to renew their motor vehicle or driver’s licence, which could only happen once all of their outstanding warrants of arrest were paid.

The City dealt with 2 777 more representations from the public compared to the previous roadshow in April this year and had to extend it by two days in order to meet the high demand. Motorists from all over Cape Town made their way to the Cape Town Civic Centre to make use of the opportunity to clear their driving records and ensure that their licences were renewed ahead of the festive season.

‘It’s evident that the convenience which this roadshow offers is truly appreciated by the public. The extent to which the staff of our legal and traffic services teams go to ensure that all who attend these roadshows are assisted with their licence renewals and traffic fines, demonstrates their commitment to providing excellent customer service,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Councillor Sharon Cottle.

One of the key benefits of the City’s traffic fine roadshow is that traffic offenders who have multiple warrants for various courts around Cape Town may print all of their warrants, and make representation to a City prosecutor at the roadshow and then also make payment all at one location. This arrangement is far more convenient for motorists as the jurisdiction dictates that a warrant can only be dealt with by the court of origin.

‘The roadshows also provide an opportunity for open communication between the public and the relevant City staff members on a range of matters should they require guidance,’ said Councillor Cottle.

The City would like to remind all members of the public who may have outstanding fines or warrants that they are welcome to visit the relevant municipal court in the area of jurisdiction where the fine or warrant was issued, and to apply for a reduction of the fine or to pay any fine or warrant.

The municipal courts are open from 08:00 to 15:00 on weekdays at the following locations:
