The tournament’s return to the Mother City comes on the back of a new three-year sponsorship agreement between the City of Cape Town and the SA Women’s Open.

This new agreement keeps the country’s premier women’s golf tournament in Cape Town until 2023. Cape Town has hosted the tournament since 2018.

‘This tournament has become an integral part of Cape Town’s annual events calendar over the last four years. Its contribution to the economy is impactful with an estimate of over R5 million annually.  We believe granting multi-year agreement gives event organisers time to better plan their events for more growth and provide Cape Town with an even bigger opportunity to showcase its offering to the world,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith.

Teeing off at the Westlake Golf Club on Thursday 13 May 2021, the SA Women’s Open features more than 100 international golfers from 25 countries including South Africa.

It is the final stop in the Sunshine Ladies Tour season, which kicked off here in the Mother City in April with the Cape Town Ladies Open.

‘The SA Women’s Open has over the years provided a platform for amateur women golfers to cut their teeth in the big league. We’re thrilled to be involved with a tournament that is also focused on the development of young golfers who have the opportunity to showcase their skills and potentially move a step up towards professional competitions,’ added Alderman Smith.

As the national championship of women’s golf in South Africa, the Women’s Open is co-sanctioned between the Sunshine Ladies Tour and the Ladies European Tour.

This year’s contest will also serve as a qualifying event for the 2021 US Women’s Open to be held in San Francisco next month.

The 2021 edition of the SA Women’s Open runs until Sunday, 16 May 2021.
