Enforcement operations by the City’s Metro Police and Traffic Services Departments play an important role in ensuring safer roads.
‘We will increase our efforts to ensure that motorists abide by the laws of the road to make it safer and to bring those who transgress to book. Every motorist has the responsibility to abide by the road safety rules. When you transport passengers, you have an added responsibility,’ said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The City’s Traffic Services had a busy week and they arrested several motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol and issued several fines for various offences. The Taxi Enforcement Unit also conducted numerous operations and arrested two suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol, impounded 11 vehicles and issued 1 486 fines for various other offences.

Safety on the road is paramount and it is the responsibility of the owner and driver of the vehicle to ensure that the vehicle is roadworthy. We would like to ask residents to assist the city in reporting incidents and potential dangerous situations on the road so that our enforcement agencies can act quickly and assist those in need, ' said Alderman Smith.
