The Urban Waste Management Directorate would like to send a special appreciation to all our cleansing staff members across the CityThe Urban Waste Management Directorate would like to send a special appreciation to all our cleansing staff members across the City as they dedicate their time to ensure that our beautiful City is kept in pristine condition as far as possible.
The City currently faces a huge challenge of illegal dumping and littering in our communities. Over R350 million is spent annually clearing up illegal dumping, and these are resources that could be used on other critical service delivery programmes. We therefore call upon communities to assist us and our hard-working teams by reporting illegal dumping and use the facilities provided by the City to dispose of their waste.
‘Every year the cleansing team clears approximately 2 900 large dumping hotspots across the city.
‘I would like to thank all the men and women within this directorate for their continued efforts in giving their best in ensuring that our communities are clean and free of litter. In addition, I want to send a special plea to our residents to avoid dumping illegally and please report those who participate in this act. We all have a role to play in keeping our areas clean,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.
