Subcouncils allocate additional funding for clean-ups

4 February 2020

The Urban Management Directorate is doing its part to prevent the accumulation of waste and to keep the city clean

The project will see regular clean-ups in areas such as Hout Bay, Woodstock, Elsies River, Valhalla Park, Bishop Lavis, Delft and Fisantekraal. This top-up funding forms part of the Mayoral Urban Renewal Programme (MURP).

‘The project entails the cleaning of streets in and around the targeted areas,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

This operational budget will complement the regular clean-up operations.

The Urban Management Directorate is doing its part to prevent the accumulation of waste and to keep the city clean, which in turn will prevent the spread of illnesses.

‘With Cape Town named as the best City in the World, we need to do all we can to keep our city clean. A clean city will help to attract more tourists, which will in turn contribute to job creation and our economy,’ said Alderman Twigg.

‘It is our duty to keep our city clean, not only for our future generations but also for the visitors we want to attract,’ added Alderman Twigg.

Since its inception six years ago, MURP has evolved to include all areas across the City of Cape Town.
