A new security fence has been erected around Francis Court in Parkwood Estate
(Ward 66). The upgrade was done in consultation with the tenants and was
facilitated by Cllr William Akim of Subcouncil 18. The installation work began
on 22 February 2016 and was completed on 8 March 2016.
The perimeter fence now allows cars to be parked securely at night without
fear of being stolen or broken into. The residents have taken ownership of the
improvement and have appointed three volunteers who will ensure that the
entrance gate is locked after hours. The fence includes two pedestrian gates to
allow residents easy access to their rental units.
Funding for the project was provided by the repair and maintenance budget
allocation and amounted to an investment of R50 000.
“The new fencing will greatly improve residents’ safety and security allowing
them to better safeguard their property. This project demonstrates how the City
of Cape Town is partnering with local communities to make progress possible
together,” said Cllr Akim.
