Sections of Strandfontein beach closed intermittently for the decommissioning of the desalination plant

18 July 2020

Access from the tidal pool entrance to Strandfontein beach will be closed from Monday 20 July 2020 for the duration of the decommissioning project.

Access from the tidal pool entrance to Strandfontein beach will be closed from Monday 20 July 2020 for the duration of the decommissioning project.

Residents are reminded that the area will be treated as a construction site and that all applicable safety practices and procedures will apply.

The beach will be closed to ensure public safety during the dismantling of the temporary Strandfontein desalination plant. The closure of some sections of the beach will remain in place to also allow for the transportation of equipment from the coastal site as it is decommissioned from service.

The duration of this process is difficult to forecast as inclement weather and rough sea conditions may cause unforeseen delays. Beaches remain closed to the public under the current regulations of the lockdown.

The City wants to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation during this period.
