Scottsdene housing dispute a private matter before court
2 April 2018
The City of Cape Town is aware of an incident that occurred in Scottsdene, Kraaifontein over the weekend where a group of residents were apparently removed from a private property.
The City is in no way involved in those proceedings.
As soon as I was made aware of the situation, I contacted the ward councillor who briefed me on the background on the issue and provided an update.
My understanding is that the company involved has a court interdict against occupation of the properly in question, while the group of residents from Scottsdene have also approached the court.
I was also contacted by Chris Nissen of the South African Human Rights Commission which is intervening in the matter.
I informed commissioner Nissen that the matter was currently before court and that it is a private matter between the residents and the developer.
The City is not cited as a respondent in the matter and can therefore not get involved.
