Safety and Security staff showed up in their hundreds for a fun run at Rondebosch Common
Earlier today, the City's Safety and Security Directorate staff showed up in their hundreds for a fun run at Rondebosch Common to raise funds for the St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital. It’s the second time that staff lace up for a good cause – the inaugural event in 2025 attracted more than 500 participants.
Representatives from the Public Safety Training College, Metro Police and Law Enforcement Departments, Traffic Services, Fire and Rescue Service, Public Emergency Communication Centre, Disaster Risk Management Centre and other members from the Safety and Security Directorate participated in the five kilometre run.
Today’s event once again saw more than 500 runners participate.

Staff could choose to run the race or sponsor a runner or runners to complete the distance.
Funds raised will be donated to the St Joseph’s Children’s Hospital to assist young patients.
This year, the hospital, formerly known as the St Joseph's Intermediate Paediatric Care facility, celebrates 91 years of existence.

Donations are open until end October, and the total amount of funds raised will be announced during the first week in November.
‘Our Safety and Security staff once again showed that not only do they serve to protect, but are also willing to step up for a worthy cause to assist communities. The fun run is proving to be extremely popular and everyone who participated contributed towards strengthening the St Joseph’s Children Hospital’s ability to provide medical assistance and care to those in need. I want to thank each and every person who took the time either to reach the finish line or reach into their pockets to lend a hand,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
