Roadworks on Jakes Gerwel Drive and Jan Smuts Drive

The City of Cape Town has begun roadworks on Jakes Gerwel Drive, between Voortrekker Road and Frans Conradie Drive, in Goodwood. Once this section is complete, the City’s Roads Infrastructure Management team will move on to Jan Smuts Drive, working from Oude Molen High School to Welwyn Avenue. The work will take place at night, from 19:00 to 05:30, Sunday to Friday, and is scheduled for completion by mid-February 2026, pending any unforeseen delays.
The work on Voortrekker Road will include base patching and surface patching, while the upcoming upgrades on Jan Smuts Drive will involve resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt and replacing any missing or damaged kerbs.
All road markings affected during the process will be reinstated.
Road users are advised to exercise caution in these areas and to allow for additional travel time or consider alternative routes while work is in progress.
This maintenance forms part of the City’s ongoing road management and upkeep programme.
