Road users advised of rehabilitation work along Jakes Gerwel Drive
24 February 2023
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced with a project to rehabilitate approximately 1,8km of the dual carriageway of Jakes Gerwel Drive
The work will be done under two separate projects both of which have commenced at Highlands Drive this week and will finish before the R300. One project is on the northbound carriageway and the other is on the southbound carriageway.
Residents are advised that these roadworks will take place between 08h00 and 17h00 from Mondays to Saturdays.
The work entails the rehabilitation of the existing road layers and asphalt surfacing and forms part of the City's road rehabilitation programme.
'The City will ensure that there is enough road width available to provide two traffic lanes on each carriageway to help mitigate traffic disruptions, however motorists are advised to consider using alternative routes. We appeal to the surrounding community to please cooperate with our team on the ground in order for us to complete the rehabilitation along Jakes Gerwel as planned. This is a very busy route in our city and we would like to implement the necessary works without any delay,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The City's Road Infrastructure Management Department will be milling out the existing road surfacing and replacing it with a new asphalt road surface.
