• To limit the impact on road users, the physical work will take place outside of the peak traffic periods from 09:00 to 15:30.
• Resurfacing work will happen at night, between 19:00 and 04:30 from Sunday evenings to Friday mornings. No work will be done on Saturdays. Residents and business owners must please note that some lanes will be closed during the nightwork period and to anticipate noise during this time.
The project details:
• The resurfacing and rehabilitation works include the milling of the existing roads and filling it with a new asphalt surfacing layer; all-in-all this entails work on approximately 1km of road surface
• Isolated repairs to channels and kerbs, where necessary
• All road markings removed during the process will also be reinstated
‘This project forms part of the City’s Pavement Management System maintenance on existing roads. We know roadworks are disruptive and inconvenient. However, regular maintenance prolongs the longevity of our road network and ensures we keep Capetonians moving. There will be some congestion as a result of the work and I advise road users to consider alternative routes as far as possible,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Traffic moving in both directions will be affected, however, flag personnel will direct traffic through temporary detours around the demarcated work area.
Vehicles parked on the road and obstructing the maintenance work will be moved or towed.
Road users are advised to be cautious, lower their speed, pay attention to road signs, be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces, be mindful of the construction workers, and factor in longer travel times.
