Resurfacing works along sections of Old Oak Road in Bellville

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has commenced resurfacing works along sections of Old Oak Road in Bellville, as the City continues to invest in maintaining and improving the road network that residents rely on every day. The works began today and are scheduled for completion by Friday, 13 November 2026, weather permitting and in the absence of unforeseen delays. Work will take place from 09:00 to 15:30, Monday to Friday.

The affected sections are the northbound carriageway of Old Oak Road, between Sonneblom Crescent and Durban Road, and the southbound carriageway, between Twist Street and Durban Road.

‘Every road the City resurfaces is an investment in safer journeys, better driving conditions and infrastructure that can serve communities longer. We know that roadworks can be inconvenient, but allowing our roads to deteriorate is not an option. We must do the work, maintain our infrastructure and plan for the long term to keep Cape Town moving in it,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas

‘The current work being done in Bellville will include milling and removing the existing road surface, laying new asphalt, replacing isolated damaged road base sections, removing and replacing damaged manholes and kerbs, repairing affected sidewalks, and reinstating road markings once the resurfacing is complete.’

The City recommends that road users be cautious while work is under way, lower their speed, pay attention to road signs, be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces, be mindful of the construction workers, and consider alternative routes. At least one lane will be open to traffic in each direction during working times.
