Road resurfacing in Belhar
16 October 2023
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises road users and businesses in the Belhar area of roadworks along Symphony Way, between Erica Drive and Stellenbosch Arterial. The details of the resurfacing and rehabilitation work are as follows:
• The installation of sections of kerb, channel and footway repairs
• The reconstruction of the base layers with cold in-situ recycled material
• The removing of the existing surface and replacing it with hot-mix asphalt
• The reinstatement of the traffic lights at the intersections and all road markings removed during the
process will be reinstated.
Resurfacing will be done on both the carriageways of Symphony Way, therefore traffic moving in both directions will be affected between 09:00 and 15:30 on weekdays and between 08:00 and 18:00 on weekends. Congestion is expected as there will be partial road closures. A Stop/Go system as well as detour traffic accommodation methods will be used to regulate traffic around the work area. It is recommended that road users consider alternative routes.
'This work forms part of our regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the City's road network. I am certain that residents and businesses in this area will be quite pleased with the smooth road surface that will follow this work. For the time being, I urge all who will be making use of this road to please exercise caution and adhere to temporary road signs until the work is complete,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Councillor Rob Quintas.
