Road layout and access changes to Gordon’s Bay Village Plaza
16 June 2023
Proposed road layout and access changes around Village Plaza in Gordon’s BayThe scope of work entails:
- Construction of right-turn lanes into the Faure Marine Drive median island to shelter right-turns into the service station and Wildeboom Road.
- Road-marking alterations to the left lane on Faure Marine Drive, coming from the Strand side, to allow for the new left-turn lane into Wildeboom Road.
- Construction of kerbs along Faure Marine Drive between Wildeboom Road and Water Way to enforce the current single throughlane.
- Closure of the ingress into Water Way.
- Construction of Wildeboom Road across the road verge and stormwater channel, between Faure Marine Drive and the existing Wildeboom Road.
- Possible kerbing along the service station (Erf 1053) to prohibit right-turn egress.
The southwestern end of Wildeboom Road will be opened to allow vehicles to turn into Wildeboom Road. Those approaching from the Strand side along Faure Marine Drive will turn left into Wildeboom Road and those approaching from the Rooi Els side will turn via the median break with a right-turn lane. Furthermore: - The existing Wildeboom Road will remain a two-way road between the Village Plaza front parking area and Lancaster Road, but vehicles will not be allowed to travel from Wildeboom Road to Faure Marine Drive.
- The traffic flow on Water Way will be amended with vehicles no longer allowed to enter Water Way from Faure Marine Drive, but the current exit from Water Way onto Faure Marine Drive will remain. Water Way will remain a two-way road between the Village Plaza front parking area and Lancaster Road.
- Road users on the Strand approach along Faure Marine Drive will still be able to turn right into the service station (Erf 1053) by using the existing median break, but vehicles will not be able to exit the service station towards Rooi Els. Motorists wishing to return to the Rooi Els side will have to turn left from the service station towards the Strand and then make a U-turn at the next median break or the roundabout in order to return to the Rooi Els side.
