The works will be implemented during the week from 09:00 to15:30.
The works entail the following:
• Repair and realign kerbs and channels
• Repair surface and base patches on the road and sidewalk
• Remove the existing brick paving and replace with asphalt
• Mill the existing surface and inlay with asphalt
‘Retreat Road is a very busy road and many residents from Grassy Park, Lotus River and surrounds, use it to get to Retreat station, where they either connect to other transport modes or walk to work or school. Thus, we will not close the road but will accommodate traffic by having one lane open and by having a detour while construction is under way on the other. I understand that this will be frustrating, however, the existing road surface is dry, old, has base failures, water is not draining and the curbs need to be re-aligned. Thus, this work is necessary and we have to do it,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
‘I appeal to motorists, taxi drivers and residents to please consider using alternative routes while the construction is under way. I also urge all road users to please comply with the signage displayed around the construction area to ensure that the works can continue uninterrupted, thereby ensuring that it is completed within the scheduled time and you can start enjoying the benefits,’ said Councillor Quintas.
