Resurfacing of St Peters and Durban Roads in Mowbray

22 May 2023

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to advise road users and businesses of roadworks along St Peters and Durban Roads in Mowbray.

Traffic travelling in both directions of St Peters and Durban Roads will be affected. Importantly, residents in the vicinity may also experience some level of noise at night while the work is under way. We apologise for any inconvenience.

The scope of the work entails:

  • Minor repairs to damaged or missing kerbs
  • Installation of an asphalt grid reinforcement on some sections of the road
  • Removing the existing asphalt surfacing and replacing with new hot-mix asphalt surfacing
  • Reinstating the road marking

'I ask that residents in the area cooperate and be patient with our team on the ground over the next few weeks as we complete the work along these portions of road. I understand that this is a very busy section of Mowbray and therefore it is essential that we ensure the road infrastructure is well maintained. Our team has decided to schedule night work for this project in order to complete the work as swiftly as possible and to avoid causing additional congestion in the area during the day. Unfortunately, this means that residents in the vicinity may experience some noise at night. I also want to advise that motorists consider using alternative routes over this period,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
