Resurfacing of roads in Newlands and Rondebosch

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises residents, road users, businesses and the broader public of the resurfacing of Main Road, Belmont Road and Park Road in Rondebosch and Newlands. The roadworks will commence this week, between 09:00 and 16:00 on weekdays. Work might be carried over into the night from 21:00 and 04:00 and on Sundays from 07:00 to 18:00. Friday, 22 December 2023, is scheduled as the completion date.
The roadworks will be carried out along:
• Main Road – from Klipper Road to Campground Road in Newlands
• Belmont Road – from Main Road to Liesbeech Parkway in Rondebosch
• Park Road – Liesbeeck Parkway to Milner Road on the Eastbound Carriageway in Rondebosch.
The specific details of the work entail:
• Tree trimming and resurfacing of sidewalks on the shoulders of the road.
• Removing the existing surface and replacing with asphalt.
• Reinstating road markings.
• And the installation of bridge joints on Belmont Road.
This work forms part of the City’s regular maintenance programme to prolong the longevity of the city’s road network.
‘We would like to thank motorists and pedestrians in the Rondebosch area for their patience in this infrastructure-led project that seeks to improve the road network and enable economic growth. Some of the roads we will be working on are very busy routes and we will try to minimise lane closures. Wherever possible, we would recommend that motorists take alternative routes during this period. Pedestrians are also advised to be mindful of construction workers working on the sidewalks,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
