The scope of the works include:
• The milling and removal of the existing surface layer
• Relaying it with new asphalt
• And the replacement of all damaged manholes, catchpits, frames and chambers.
All road markings removed during the process will also be reinstated. This resurfacing maintenance forms part of the City of Cape Town road maintenance system.
Congestion is expected and the City of Cape Town recommends that road users exercise caution while work is under way; lower your speed, pay attention to road signs, be vigilant in and around the roadworks area, look out for uneven road surfaces, be mindful of construction workers, factor in longer travel times and consider alternative routes wherever possible.
‘This is a busy route and we will try our best to minimise the lane closures during the morning and afternoon peak-hours to limit the impact on road users. This resurfacing will prolong the longevity of the road and also ensure that vehicles are spared the burden of driving on bad roads,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
