Resurfacing of 4th and 6th Avenue in Schaapkraal

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises the public of roadworks along 4th Avenue and 6th Avenue in Philippi in Schaapkraal. The work is planned to take place from today, 9 April 2024, until the end of June 2024, from 07:30 to 17:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays.The work along 4th Avenue and 6th Avenue in Philippi, Schaapkraal includes:
- The excavation of existing pavement layers
- The construction of a new stormwater system, meaning we will be drilling underneath Strandfontein Road to link with the existing stormwater line along 6th Avenue
- The resurfacing of the two avenues
- The construction of new sidewalks on both sides of the road
- Repainting of roadmarkings
Residents can expect some noise and dust pollution during this time.
‘Ubusika buyeza kwaye silungiselela nina; winter is coming and we are making preparations for you. The work we are doing on the stormwater drains is being done to prepare for this coming winter and our rainy season. We ask that residents please take care of these drains and take extra precaution to ensure no objects other than runoff from rain events enter these drains. This will prevent water from damming on the road surface and also prolongs the lifespan of the roads we are resurfacing,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
