Resealing of District 3 Industrial Roads in Bellville

29 May 2023

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to advise the public and businesses of roadworks along Boulevard Park, Hardekraaltjie, and Mill Street in Bellville.

The City plans to mill the existing road surface in selected industrial roads in Bellville. These will be replaced with new asphalt layers. The work forms part of regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the City's road network.

The affected roads are as follows:

  • In Boulevard Park, from Tienie Meyer By-Pass to the end of road
  • Hardekraaltjie, from Voortrekker Road to the end of road
  • Mill Road, from Peter Barlow Drive to the sectional end

Traffic moving in both directions will be affected:

  • Flag personnel will direct traffic through temporary detours around the work area
  • Work areas will be demarcated to regulate traffic flow
  • Vehicles parked in the road and obstructing the maintenance work, will be moved or towed

To ease congestion, the affected roads will not be entirely closed. Instead, Stop and Go lane closures will be implemented. Road users are asked to adhere to the traffic accommodation signage and speed limit in these specified areas. Upon completion, all the road-markings that existed before the resurfacing work will be reinstated.

'We ask that the community please cooperates with our team on the ground while the project is ongoing. We would like to reseal these portions of the road to provide residents and businesses in the area with a safe and smooth road surface. We have measures in place to help direct residents during the construction period and we urge all to please pay attention to road signs and factor in longer travel times on these routes,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
