Repairs to the Steenbras Bulk Water Pipeline at Croydon completed
17 July 2020
Repairs to the bulk water main have been completed
Repairs to the bulk water main have been completed. The teams are monitoring this large diameter pipeline, as it has to be slowly filled up before it has sufficient discharge pressure to supply the network with water to the consumers.
Residents are asked to please keep in mind that although the work has now been completed, it will take a number of hours for the water supply to normalise.
Although the City has taken substantial precautionary measures to minimise the impact on the residents in the affected areas. Parts of Eerste River, De Wijnlanden and Blue Downs are experiencing lower than usual water pressure and also no water supply in higher-lying areas. Water trucks have been made available in these areas to provide residents with water for domestic use, if needed.
‘I thank the team for making every effort to complete the repairs in the shortest and safest time possible, over a period of close to 24 hours. It has been an extremely complex job, from planning to implementation, and has taken many unrelenting hours to complete on site. The team is monitoring the water supply in the affected areas.
‘I also want to thank our residents for their patience while the repairs have been under way. The City apologises for any inconvenience caused during this time, however, it is imperative that the water supply infrastructure is maintained effectively to ensure a continued, reliable supply of drinking water to residents.
‘We ask that residents minimise their water consumption to reduce strain on the water supply to these areas until such time, as the water supply has normalised,’ said Alderman Xanthea Limberg, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste.
Furthermore, residents are reminded that they can submit service requests to the City via the following channels:
