Public Participation workshop on Spine Road Local Spatial Development Framework
10 April 2024
The City of Cape Town intends to develop a local spatial development framework for the Spine Road Corridor in Khayelitsha and would like to invite residents and members of the public at large to a public participation workshop that will be held on Tuesday, 23 April 2024, at the Khayelitsha Training Centre Auditorium from 12:00 to 15:30.The Spine Road Corridor represents a road that is extremely congested, and is subject to pressure from a multitude of land uses and activities in its reserves.
- The City has, therefore, initiated the upcoming public participation workshop for the Spine Road Development Corridor to encourage inputs to draft such a plan. The purpose of the LSDF would be:
- To provide policy alignment for the area and incorporate changes in City policies, strategies and plans
- To provide local level policy guidance and a development vision of the Spine Road Development Corridor for land use and other related decision-making
- To provide guidance on growth management in the area
- To enable property owners to capitalise on their locational advantages to help eradicate poverty in the area
- And to facilitate the establishment of small-scale business enterprises that are broadly compatible with the residential neighbourhood and the mobility functions of Spine Road
