Public invited to comment on City’s marine outfall permits online

6 November 2026

Have your say on marine outfall monitoring results

The City of Cape Town invites residents, stakeholders and interested parties to participate in an online public comment process on the quarterly monitoring results for its three marine outfalls at Camps Bay, Hout Bay and Green Point. The presentations will be available from Friday, 20 November to Friday, 4 December 2026.

The City’s online collaboration platform will temporarily replace the quarterly Marine Outfalls Permit Advisory Forum (PAF) as a platform to engage with the public and receive and record feedback until the City’s new Council and its committees have been confirmed, following the local government elections.

All presentations can be viewed and downloaded from Friday, 20 November to Friday, 4 December 2026 on the Collaboration platform, where participants may submit comments and feedback during the two-week consultation period.

The presentations will cover compliance monitoring and environmental performance, as well as compliance with the conditions of the recently issued coastal water discharge permits.

New Coastal Water Discharge Permits

The City has recently been issued additional new permits by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), for Simon’s Town, Mitchell’s Plain and Oudekraal.

Residents are invited to view the permit conditions, which will be included in the City’s monitoring and reporting programme at PAF meetings going forward.

In line with DFFE requirements, all interested and affected parties (I&APs) have been sent copies of the permits via email. To join the Water and Sanitation mailing list, please send a request to communications.waterandsanitation@capetown.gov.za.

All three permits will also be available to view and download as part of the PAF presentations on the City's Collaboration Platform from Friday, 20 November 2026.

The deadline for comments on all PAF presentations and permits is Friday, 4 December 2026. Feedback can be submitted via:
