Protect your power: City attends to streetlight-related service requests in Claremont and surrounds

29 September 2024

The City’s Energy teams are prioritising streetlight-related service requests across the city.
The Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg, joined the local electricity teams as they attended to streetlight service requests along Claremont Boulevard.

‘Our teams continue to prioritise streetlight repairs in all hotspot areas where vandalism is prevalent. Along Claremont Boulevard, the local area depot staff attended to faulty streetlights as well as replaced a number of older streetlight bulbs.

‘The City’s depot staff is making significant progress with the streetlight maintenance programme and vandalism repairs and we thank communities for their support. Our teams fixed more than 14 000 streetlight-related faults over 28 days and we will continue to do all we can to improve on our turnaround times in all communities. The City appeals to residents to be our eyes and ears and to report incidents of vandalism, especially in terms of streetlights, to the City and the South African Police Service (SAPS). Your assistance in identifying and reporting these incidents is crucial in helping us prevent any further damage and to ensure public safety,’ said Alderman Limberg.

Report to us
The City urges our communities to protect the electricity infrastructure servicing their area and to please call us if they see any suspicious activity to help us to prevent criminals from leaving our communities in the dark.

Let’s ACT: Protect Your Power
Report suspicious behaviour to the City’s Public Emergency Communication Centre: 021 480 7700

*Note: the data looks at all streetlight-related service requests closed over a particular two-week period. Data is dynamic and new requests are constantly added to the already logged requests, as well as historic service requests. The data looks only at streetlight-related requests and does not include other energy service requests attended to over the period in review.
