Pressure management in Paarden Eiland, Gordon’s Bay, Jagtershof, Protea Heights and Camps Bay areas

25 June 2018

The City continues to roll out automated pressure zones for the implementation of pressure management. This technology reduces the flow of water and thus helps to reduce water usage. To install an automated zone, the City needs to test the integrity of the local reticulation network.

Planned maintenance is to take place in the following areas during the course of this week:

  • The Paarden Eiland zone which is bounded by Lynx Road to the north, Southgate Road to the west, Bermuda Road to the east and N1 Freeway to the south. The work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 26 June 2018 from 20:00 to 04:00.
  • The Mountainside area which includes the Gordon’s Bay and Onverwacht areas and is bounded by Octupus Road to the north, St Croix Road to the west, Dennehof Drive to the east and Sir Lowry’s Pass Road to the south. The work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 26 June 2018 from 20:00 to 04:00.
  • The Jagstershof zone which includes the Jagtershof, Kuils River and Eikenbosch areas. The zone is bounded by Langverwacht Road to the north, Foxhound Road to the west, Manhattan Road to the east and Simmons Road to the south. The work is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 26 June 2018 from 10:00 to 16:00.
  • The Ruwari Zone which includes the Protea Heights Area. The zone is bounded by Kruispad to the north and east, Jakaranda and Stasie Street to the west and Bottelary Road to the south. The work is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 27 June 2018 from 20:00 to 04:00.
  • The Camps Bay area which is bounded by Fiskaal Close to the west, Geneva Drive to the north, Camps Bay Drive to the east and Theresa Road to the south. The work is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 27 June 2018 from 10:00 to 15:00.

Not only does pressure management generally lower consumption by reducing the rate at which water flows to properties, it also reduces leaks and pipe bursts by better ensuring that pressure remains within levels that the pipework can tolerate, and reduces the rate of loss from leaks and bursts.

We have identified 25 areas across the city that could benefit from this technology over the next three months, and contractors have been brought in to speed up the programme.

Other areas will be informed of supply disruptions in due course.

Affected areas are requested not to stockpile large volumes of municipal water as the service interruptions are not expected to be in effect for long periods.

Please also keep taps closed to prevent water damage in the event of water being restored after a disruption.

At all times careful consideration will be given to ensure minimal disruption to the water supply in the affected areas.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused.
