Partial closure of Clifton Fourth Beach until further notice

27 March 2022

Clifton Fourth Beach temporarily closed.

The temporary closure is due to a sewer pump station failure at Clifton Fourth, resulting in wastewater pooling on the beach.

Various City departments have been activated to respond to this incident.

Repairs to the pump station are underway.

The cause of the failure is under investigation too.

A berm has been constructed to prevent wastewater from contaminating the seawater.

Following an assessment of the situation, a decision was taken to close only a section of the beach area.

Signage has been erected, advising the public of the situation.

We appreciate the public's cooperation during this time.
