Ottery gets 1,2km of new water pipes

3 November 2026

R4m pipe replacement project under way in Ottery

More than R4 million is being invested in replacing ageing water pipes in Ottery to improve the reliability of the water supply and reduce the risk of future pipe bursts. The project forms part of the City’s proactive pipe replacement programme to strengthen Cape Town’s water network.

Work started in August 2026 and involves replacing old 100mm and 150mm-diameter water mains with new 110mm and 160mm uPVC pipes along Carrol Road, Davids Way, Vlamboom Road, Corner De Wet and Ilex Road.

The project involves replacing just over 1,2km of pipelines and is scheduled for completion by 25 November 2026.

The new mains are being installed approximately one metre beneath the road surface using the open-trench method.

‘Reliable water supply is essential for residents, and replacing ageing infrastructure before it fails is an important part of maintaining that reliability. Our proactive pipe replacement programme focuses on vulnerable sections of the network, with a target of replacing at least 1,5% of the total network each year.

‘We thank Ottery residents for their patience and cooperation while we carry out these essential upgrades,’ said Alderman Zahid Badroodien, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.
