Non-collection of refuse in some parts of the City
27 December 2019
The City wishes to apologise to residents as well as businesses for the interruption in refuse collection services in some parts of the City over the last couple of days.
While every effort was made to firmly ascertain which staff would be available on the public holidays (25th and 26th December), the City has had to deal with notable unplanned absences from work. This has resulted in refuse not being collected due to a shortage of staff. The City is presently looking into the unexpected absences in line with HR policies.
Additional resources are being redirected to the affected areas at present. However, we anticipate it will probably take more than a single day to clear the backlog.
Work will likely continue beyond normal working hours. We are unable to provide everyone who is affected with the exact time for refuse collection. Therefore, residents and businesses are kindly requested to leave their refuse bins on the kerbside for today and tomorrow (Saturday) until approximately 21:00.
