No Shark Spotters on beaches on Monday 23 May

20 May 2016

The City of Cape Town is committed to ensuring safer beach-going experiences for visitors.

As such, employees of the Shark Spotters Programme will be attending advanced safety training on Monday 23 May 2016.

The City would therefore like to inform residents that there will be no Shark Spotters at any of our beaches on this day (Monday 23 May).

‘The City of Cape Town has approved the request by the Shark Spotters Programme to suspend their operations for the day as we believe that enhancing their safety skills is to the betterment of the service and will be beneficial to our beachgoers.

‘Residents who plan to visit the beach on Monday are encouraged to be vigilant and take the necessary safety precautions.

All Shark Spotter operations will resume on Tuesday 24 May 2016 as per normal,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Councillor Johan van der Merwe.
