On Tuesday, 31 May 2016 a group of recent hairdressing trainees who graduated
from the City’s youth skills development programme visited the Yvonne Parfitt
Home for seniors in Westridge.
The visit formed part of an outreach effort which allowed the youths to give
something back to their community and was coordinated by Cllr Eddie Andrews of
Subcouncil 12.
A total of 10 hairdressers and 5 carers were sent to the residents’ homes to
style their hair and give them therapeutic foot massages. The seniors were
delighted with the treatment they received, and appreciated the visit which came
as an unexpected surprise.
The residents thanked the youths for their kindness, as well as Cllr Andrews
for his efforts. The councillor in turn praised the youths for making themselves
available for this charitable work and helping to boost the seniors’ spirits. He
hoped that further such community outreaches could be held, and that the newly
qualified trainees would use the opportunity to improve their skills.
