New road markings along De Grendel Avenue bring relief for Bothasig motorists

8 February 2016

The entrance into De Grendel Avenue in Bothasig from Adam Tas Avenue has been a source of frustration for local residents for some time during periods of heavy traffic congestion. After receiving numerous complaints in this regard, Cllr Helen Carstens (Ward 5) put forward a request to the City’s Roads Department to investigate the problem.

After conducting a site visit, the Roads Department officials agreed that the peak-hour congestion was making it difficult for motorists turning into De Grendel Avenue to merge with the traffic flow. It was therefore decided to permit the painting of a road marking to prohibit cars along De Grendel Avenue from occupying the intersection.

“The ‘keep clear’ zone should hopefully alleviate the difficulty for residents making use of the Adam Tas Avenue intersection. On behalf of these motorists, I thank the City’s Roads Department for its intervention,” said Cllr Carstens.

The photo inset shows the newly painted ‘keep clear’ road markings that have been provided at the intersection of Adam Tas and De Grendel Avenues, Bothasig.
