N1 FW De Klerk Pedestrian Bridge Repairs Ongoing
11 October 2026
Motorists using the N1 inbound are advised to please prepare for possible severe delays during the morning peak traffic tomorrow morning, 12 October 2026.
The urgent repairs to the N1 overhead pedestrian bridge on the N1 FW De Klerk Boulevard at Paarden Eiland as a result of damage caused by a truck on Saturday night are ongoing.
City engineers have worked all of today, and will continue work through the night. However, the repair efforts include two cranes which are currently working to lift and realign a fifty ton section of the bridge damaged by the collision.
The heavy duty works have necessitated the closure of that section of the N1 in the inbound and outbound lanes.
Whilst teams are onsite and will continue to work overnight, motorists are advised to plan ahead for the Monday morning commute as closures may still be in place.
The City is working to repair this as soon as possible, and reopen lanes as soon as it is safe to do so.
