Mayor Plato takes clean-up campaign to Tafelsig, Lentegeur
3 May 2019
This initiative was launched in March this year and has achieved great success to date with organisations and residents joining in to help keep Cape Town clean.
In the City’s January 2019 Adjustments Budget, I allocated R115 million to help tackle grime.
Today is our fourth stop on the official campaign and there are many more to come. While the City’s staff work hard to keep our City clean every day, this campaign is aimed at also educating members of the public about keeping our communities clean and reporting illegal dumping.
Vehicles that are used in illegal dumping activities can be confiscated and a release fee of nearly R16 000 will be charged, over-and-above the fines that are issued for dumping. To report illegal dumping, please call the City’s Call Centre on 0860 103 089.
.
Members of staff from our Solid Waste Department do their best to keep areas clean with regular refuse removal, but it is the responsibility of residents and communities at large not to litter. We also want to urge against illegal dumping, which is harmful and against the law. We would like residents to help us to create cleaner and safer communities.
Through this initiative, we aim to mobilise residents to take ownership of their neighbourhoods and communities by looking after the areas that they live in. The cleanliness of a neighbourhood also means that children will have a space to play that is not harmful to their health and a space that all can enjoy.
Residents are encouraged to come out and support the campaign to #KeepCapeTownClean!
