Low water pressure in Gordon’s Bay during Steenbras Water Treatment Plant maintenance
11 June 2024
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has confirmed the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant’s (WTP) temporary shutdown will now take place from tomorrow Wednesday, 12 June at 08:00 to Friday, 14 June at 18:00.The temporary shutdown is necessary so that the directorate can do routine maintenance at the Steenbras WTP.
This was originally planned for Tuesday, 11 June, but was postponed. This was done to allow the water network to stabilise following the recent emergency repair that affected supply in the area and has since been resolved.
Gordon’s Bay residents need to please take note of the new dates.
‘Careful consideration has been given to this maintenance work. Gordon’s Bay residents are advised they will experience low water pressure during this period. Although the reservoirs supplying the Gordon’s Bay area will be filled in advance, residents are kindly requested to reduce their water consumption during this time.
‘Water supply from elsewhere in the bulk water network will be rerouted to the Steenbras water supply areas.
‘The City is aware it has been a challenging week for residents in the area with water supply. We assure you our teams will monitor the supply very closely during this time until the maintenance has been completed and the water pressure normalised,’ said Councillor Zahid Badroodien, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation.
