At the subcouncil meeting that was held on Monday, 18 January 2016 a local
Kraaifontein resident, Mrs Karen Carstens (pictured inset), presented her
collection of stories that she had written up over a period of two years. The
book incorporates some 267 stories from Kraaifontein residents and includes a
historical survey of the area.
Included in the collection of stories is an account from the Subcouncil 7
chairperson, Cllr Gerhard Fourie, who had the privilege of taking care of Nelson
Mandela while he was a medical officer in the Correctional Services
department.
The book, titled “Kraaifontein Stories,” was launched on 5 December 2015 and
Mrs Carstens is working on a second volume with a release date set for December
2016. She requests that residents please contact her if they have interesting
stories to tell that relate to the Kraaifontein area. Interested parties can
make contact with Mrs Carstens via her Facebook page.
