Law Enforcement officers work to improve safety in the community

15 March 2016

A suspicious individual was confronted by local Law Enforcement officers during a routine patrol at the intersection of Symphony Way and Erica Drive in Belhar.

The intersection is well known as a crime hotspot for robberies. A search of the suspect revealed a concealed gun and he was arrested for possession of an unlicenced firearm. The officers escorted the suspect to the nearby police station for processing. Thanks to the vigilance of officers Dominic Louw and Clinton Hendricks, the streets are now a little safer for residents.

Subcouncil 6 provides annual funding for the deployment of Law Enforcement officers to improve safety and security in the area. The officers are primarily responsible for the enforcement of City by-laws but also work in close cooperation with local SAPS officers and local neighbourhood watches to ensure the safety of residents. Recent operations have also included crack-downs on cable theft and on illegal dumping in the area. Perpetrators face arrest, possible jail time and stiff fines.

"I want to thank our officers for their vigilance and quick actions. The Symphony Way intersection will be monitored closely to ensure that other such law breakers are brought to book," said Cllr Willie Jaftha (Ward 12).

Residents are urged to report any suspicious persons to Law Enforcement on 021 596 1999.
