Langa volunteers make a clean sweep

20 June 2016

An area clean-up campaign was held in Langa on Saturday, 5 June 2016. The event was coordinated by the World Mission Church of God with support from the City’s Solid Waste Management department.

The clean-up was conducted by some 116 community volunteers who collected a total of five tons of waste material that filled some 720 waste bags between 11:00 and 14:30. The collected waste was loaded onto the City’s waste collection trucks for disposal. The volunteer effort was made possible thanks to support from the leadership of the Bhunga Avenue street committee.

‘The campaign was a tremendous success, and serves as an example of what can be done when the community comes together to make a positive difference. The clean-up also raised awareness around the important issue of keeping our streets clean. We thank the community for assisting with this initiative,’ said Xolisile Mama, the Solid Waste department's Head: Area Cleaning.
