Home sweet home for more beneficiaries in Belhar
21 September 2019
The joy will continue over the next few days as 32 beneficiaries will receive keys to their new homes as part of the Belhar-Pentech housing project.
Some 34 beneficiaries have already received their homes and by the time the project is completed in June 2020, 340 beneficiaries would have received homes.

‘It is an honour to congratulate our beneficiaries on becoming homeowners for the first time in their lives. It is always heartwarming to be a part of such memorable moments for our beneficiaries and families as owning a home holds more value than just providing a roof over their heads. It signifies the restoration of dignity to some of our most vulnerable residents and provides them with security.

‘Beneficiaries are reminded that as property owners, they are responsible for all matters pertaining to their homes, which have become their assets. As such, they are encouraged to maintain their homes and secure them for their loved ones by including it in their wills,’ said Alderman Purchase.

The R55 million housing project includes the building of semi-detached and free-standing single-storey houses, as well as the installation of electrical infrastructure, street lighting, open spaces and sidewalks.

‘As a City, we are committed to redress and service delivery through the provision of housing opportunities. In keeping with this commitment, we are making every effort to ensure that the construction of this housing project remains on track so that more beneficiaries can receive their homes.
‘We also want to thank the community for their patience and support while this housing project is underway. In the coming months, we are looking forward to welcoming more qualifying beneficiaries to their homes,’ said Alderman Purchase.
