The City of Cape Town’s Gallows Hill Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC) is conducting a trial run this coming Saturday, 17 September 2016, where operating hours for all services will be extended until 17:00.
The centre is currently open until midday on Saturdays and offers a range of services, including learner and driving licence appointments, licence renewals, and traffic fine payments. The trial run to extend business hours is aimed at giving officials an idea of whether such a move will be feasible on a more permanent basis.
‘It’s no secret that many people dread visiting a driving licence testing centre, whether to renew a document, do their driving test, or pay outstanding traffic fines. We are doing this trial run to test the feasibility of extending operating hours at Gallows Hill and at the very least reducing the stress of trying to get to the centre on a week day which is difficult for many people,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The City would like to point out that members of the public who intend visiting Gallows Hill for the trial run should be in line by 15:30 when doors will be closed. This is to ensure that staff members have sufficient time to process transactions and attend to everyone in line by the cut-off time before the eNatis system switches off at 17:00.
‘The eNatis system is a national system and we cannot circumvent it. This is why we’re closing doors earlier so that we can see to everyone already in the building at the time and make sure that the trial run ends in a win for all concerned,’ added Alderman Smith.
Visitors are reminded that the Gallows Hill Driving Licence Testing Centre does not offer vehicle registration services or roadworthy testing.
