Fleet Management and Maintenance achieves milestone RTMS/ISO 39001 Accreditation

7 July 2016

The certificate handover took place during a ceremony at the Electricity Services headquarters in Bellville. Mayor Patricia de Lille, Cllr Ernest Sonnenberg (Mayoral Committee member for Utility Services) and the Executive Director Gisela Kaiser attended the ceremony.

Our Electricity Fleet Management and Maintenance service have adopted a structured, holistic approach that has improved their road traffic safety management results greatly.  This, in turn, has contributed to Cape Town’s wider goal of fewer road injuries and fatalities as well minimized the risk of injuries on duty (IODs).  Through reduction of vehicle overloading, we are now able to protect our road infrastructure and further contribute to road safety in Cape Town.

The ISO39001 accreditation aims to encourage organisations to contribute actively to road traffic safety (RTS). Businesses and enterprises can actively contribute to reducing the risk of death and serious injury from road traffic in areas within their sphere of influence. The improved standard is an invaluable tool for any organisation that recognizes the advantages of implementing an occupational road safety management system, both for themselves and their stakeholders. These include employees, customers and society at large.

We are committed to responsible practices through an integrated management system (IMS) and road traffic safety management system (RTS).  This operates to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 39001 standards and all applicable legislation and other requirements.

What we are particularly proud of is that Cape Town now runs the only officially accredited government fleet operation in South Africa and on the African continent.

“I am really proud of my Fleet Management and Maintenance division under the leadership of Willem who also is accredited with ISO 9001, 14 001 and 18001. Fleet management and maintenance is a 24/7 and a 365 day a year operation as well,” said John B Esterhuizen, Branch Manager for Technical Support Services.
