First day for City’s new Transport Executive Director

1 September 2020

Dalene Campbell is the City of Cape Town’s new Executive Director for Transport.

Campbell is a qualified transport economist and transport planner with 34 years’ managerial experience. She worked at the City from 2012 to 2014 as the Manager: Contract Management within the Transport Directorate.

She has been involved with public transport projects in major cities in Australia and New Zealand over the past five years, and has also conducted work in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

‘Dalene has vast experience in working with government entities, and transport planning and the delivery of public transport projects. Local government is facing many challenges and we have to do more with less. The COVID-19 pandemic is threatening residents’ livelihoods and it is more important than ever before to improve public transport, access and cost. The efficient movement of people and goods is crucial in kick-starting our local economy again. I am confident that Dalene will, as the new Executive Director for Transport, provide leadership and direction, and be innovative in her approach as we are facing these challenges,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase.
