DAD Youth Mentorship Programme welcomes new learners for 2016
5 April 2016
On Tuesday, 22 March and Thursday, 24 March 2016 learners from Portland and Westridge High schools were welcomed onto the Decision Affects Destinies (DAD) Youth Mentorship Programme.
DAD Programme
The DAD Programme aims to involve youth at risk in community activities and to keep them away from the temptations of gangsterism and drugs. As youth ambassadors, participants are given life skills training and they are encouraged to act as role-models in their communities.
Cllr Eddie Andrews welcomed all the learners and informed the new ambassadors about the programme’s aims. He further requested that they make use of the opportunity to boost their chances of achieving success. He concluded by introducing the peer and assistant peer leaders who had been through the programme and who would act as mentors to the new arrivals.
The learners then boarded the bus where they were taken to Cape Point Nature Reserve. A hike through the reserve was led by the City’s Nature Conservation officer, Jerome September.
