City's roads team makes progress along Jakes Gerwel Drive

16 March 2023

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas today visited the road works site along Jakes Gerwel Drive

'Our roads infrastructure management team is making good progress with the rehabilitation of this portion of Jakes Gerwel Drive. The team is on course to complete the work in May this year, weather dependant. We ask that commuters remain patient over the next two months while we complete this stretch of road as efficiently as possible.

'We understand this is a very busy route in our city therefore it is so important for us to keep the road in the best condition. We have ensured that there is enough road width available to provide two traffic lanes on each carriageway to help mitigate traffic disruptions, however we do advise motorists to consider using alternative routes, if at all possible,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

While it currently may appear to residents that work on the new roads is completed, as there are no workers on site, this is an important phase of the process in which the new surface needs time to cure, and this takes approximately seven days.

The work entails the rehabilitation of the existing road layers and asphalt surfacing and forms part of the City's road rehabilitation programme.

Residents are advised that these roadworks will take place between 08:00 and 17:00 from Mondays to Saturdays.

The work is being done under two separate projects both of which have commenced at Highlands Drive and will finish before the R300. One project is on the northbound carriageway and the other is on the southbound carriageway.
