The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department has received reports that the tap water in the city bowl, Green Point, Sea Point, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay areas has an unpleasant taste and odour.
We would like to assure the affected residents that the water has been tested and is safe to drink. It is suspected that plant matter on the raw water line supplying the Kloof Nek water treatment plant has entered the system, causing the alteration.
Although this is not a health-related issue and the water is compliant with the South African National Standard for Drinking Water (SANS 241), we have shut down the Kloof Nek water treatment plant that supplies this area until the unpleasant taste and odour issue is resolved. An alternative water supply is being rerouted to the area to meet the demand.
