City unveils new CCTV cameras in Hout Bay
26 September 2016
The City of Cape Town has installed four cameras in the Hout Bay area to supplement existing security measures. They are the first batch of City-owned cameras in the area and can pan, tilt and zoom.
"CCTV footage has already proven its worth in the fight against crime as it helps law enforcement agencies to respond immediately to incidents. It also assists with mapping crime hotspots, which can then influence deployment patterns – thus assisting in gathering crime intelligence as well as planning." Alderman JP SmithCity Mayoral Committee Member: Safety and Security
"The existing CCTV infrastructure in Hout Bay made it relatively easy to get the signal to one point because of proximity and there being no obstructions around the ocean line. Getting the signals back to the City’s CCTV centres, however, was a challenge but our officials managed to successfully relay the images back to our surveillance centres"Alderman JP Smith City Mayoral Committee Member: Safety and Security
