3 November 2026
Partial closure at Duinefontein and Govan Mbeki roads
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate wants to inform commuters and residents that the City will implement a partial closure of the Duinefontein Road (M10) and Govan Mbeki Road (M9) intersection in Phola Park from 5 November until 13 November 2026. The public is advised to make alternative arrangements, as those travelling along Duinefontein Road will not be allowed to move through the intersection.
‘During this closure, the contractor will undertake important upgrades that are related to the roll-out of Phase 2A of the MyCiTi bus service. I want to urge the public to please avoid this intersection as far as possible during this time. Please note that no traffic travelling in a southerly direction along Duinefontein Road will be able to move through the intersection towards Jakes Gerwel Road, but will only be allowed to turn right towards Lansdowne or left towards Gugulethu. Similarly, no traffic travelling along Duinefontein Road in a northerly direction from Jakes Gerwel Drive will be allowed to enter the intersection at all,’ said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
- The City will implement a partial closure of the Duinefontein Road (M10) and Govan Mbeki Road (M9) intersection from 05:00 on Thursday, 5 November 2026, until midnight on Friday, 13 November 2026.
- Those travelling along Jakes Gerwel Drive are advised to take Heinz Road to access the eastbound lanes along Govan Mbeki Road. No traffic travelling in a northerly direction along Duinefontein Road will be able to enter the intersection.
‘Road users must please use alternative routes, and plan for disruptions as the closure will impact traffic flow in the area. I want to thank the local community and commuters in advance for their patience and cooperation as we work toward keeping Cape Town moving. There will be temporary signage in place and flag personnel to guide road users, but it is best to avoid this area if possible,’ said Councillor Quintas.
