City’s Subcouncil 13 assists residents to register on job seeker database

10 June 2016

The City of Cape Town’s Subcouncil 13 this month started an extensive registration drive to inform members of the community of the Subcouncil’s job seeker database. Residents can register on the database and apply for temporary jobs through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Expanded Public Works Programme

The Expanded Public Works Programme seeks to alleviate poverty, provide economic relief and unlock opportunities through temporary work opportunities. It is implemented under four sectors: environmental and cultural, social, infrastructure and economic.

A group of 40 workers will visit households across each of the four wards – wards 33, 34, 35 and 36 – to distribute pamphlets and assist interested residents to register for EPWP work opportunities. This will afford them the chance to apply for a temporary job at various City of Cape Town departments. Two supervisors per ward will assist with the process.

EPWP registration drive

The awareness campaign and registration drive started last week and the closing date for registering on the EPWP database is 21 June 2016. Residents who have missed this opportunity can still go to Subcouncil 13 and fill in the job seeker application form.

After the closing date, officials from the subcouncil will collate all of the information and capture the data on the central data list. This is also an opportunity to update the details of those already on the list.

‘This initiative underscores the City’s commitment to opening up opportunities by creating an environment where residents can become part of the job market, thereby improving their quality of life,’ said Subcouncil 13 Chairperson, Councillor Rhoda-Ann Bazier.
