City’s service delivery the focus of community engagement
29 March 2019
The City’s Mayoral Committee for Urban Management, Alderman Grant Twigg, this week took the City’s basket of services to the doorstep of communities in Uitsig, Bothasig, Khayelitsha, Grassy Park and Steenberg.
A number of City departments were available to help residents with a host of services such as helping them to apply for indigent grants, to update their details on the City’s Housing Database, to make general enquiries regarding their utility bills, to gather information on health issues and job opportunities and to engage about neighbourhood safety matters.
Alderman Twigg was personally on hand at some of the venues to engage with residents and to thank the officials for their tireless service to communities.
‘The City understands that it needs to be sensitive to people’s needs and share information with all residents. When we first started planning these initiatives, we particularly took into consideration the elderly who are unable to travel far distances to their nearest municipal office. When we first started planning these initiatives, accessibility for residents was a key factor. This will enable residents to solve problems that they otherwise consider overwhelming, all because they perhaps don’t have the means to travel due to poverty or health reasons,’ said Alderman Twigg.
‘The City’s aim is to focus on being truly consumer-centric. This can only be achieved if we are able to establish unique customer relationships through the successful delivery of services. It is about making use of customer value perceptions through improving on the delivery of services to residents,’ said Alderman Twigg.
