City’s Mitchells Plain public housing maintenance site visit

1 October 2024

The City’s Public Housing maintenance teams visited a number of Community Residential Units (CRUs) in the Mitchells Plain area to carry out important maintenance and upgrades

Human Settlements Mayco Member Councillor Carl Pophaim visited the units to check on the maintenance work being carried out.

'I am pleased to have seen for myself some of the ongoing maintenance work at these units in Mitchells Plain. Some of the work carried out included repairing window handles, sealing windows, replacing doors, replacing a bath and repairing a hot water cylinder. We recently launched a Public Housing campaign to improve safety and carry out maintenance work at our residential units in a dignified manner. We aim to improve the quality of life for our residents as we create safer and more comfortable living spaces.

'The City is proud to be one of South Africa's largest landlords and we take the wellbeing of our tenants seriously. Public Housing is personally important for me and I always look forward to having the opportunity to interact and engage with residents. I encourage our tenants to report all maintenance needs at their units to 021 444 0333. Anonymous tip-offs are welcomed. Public housing only works with the participation of all stakeholders and I would like to thank Team Cape Town for standing with us to create secure and comfortable homes for our residents,' said Councillor Pophaim.
